Zuluk : A Zigzag Trail of Sikkim
Zuluk, also known as Dzuluk, is a charming hamlet located at an altitude of around 10,100 feet in the lower Himalayas of East Sikkim. This small village is part of the historic Silk Route that once connected India and Tibet. Today, Zuluk is an emerging offbeat destination, known for its stunning views of the eastern Himalayan mountain range, including the majestic Kangchenjunga.
Zuluk is surrounded by lush forests, which are home to diverse wildlife such as deer, wild dogs, Himalayan bears, and the elusive red panda. Birdwatchers can also spot various species like the Blood Pheasant, Himalayan Monal, and Snow Pheasant. During the summer months, the hills around Zuluk are adorned with blooming rhododendrons, creating a riot of colors.
One of the highlights of visiting Zuluk is the Thambi View Point, located about 14 kilometers away, which offers a panoramic view of the entire Mt. Kangchenjunga range. The village also has an Indian Army base, which adds to its strategic importance.
Zuluk is accessible to Indian nationals who need to obtain a Protected Area Permit to visit. The best time to visit is during the summer months when the weather is pleasant and the rhododendrons are in full bloom.
